The Active Retirement Group aims to help older people to lead a full, happy and healthy life by offering a range of organised opportunities from a wide range of activities. It would be based on self-help, we do things by ourselves for ourselves and we draw on the skills and experiences of our members.
Our group meets on one or two days in the week. Additionally, our main meeting for members is usually every second Wednesday from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. All new members are welcome. Our activities vary in accordance with the wishes of our members. Active participation is encouraged. Groups generally meet during daylight hours and in comfortable and convenient locations, usually in the community hall. Today, being over 55 doesn’t mean hanging up your runners and retiring to an armchair by the fire. Research has shown that staying fit and active is vital to ensure a healthy mind and body at any age.
Membership is open to men and women who are no longer working, i.e. retired persons and part-time workers, who have time on their hands and want to remain active. The joining fee is €15 (2009) and any new applicants are welcome to join. We are affiliated to Active Retirement Ireland, Eustace Street, Dublin 2. Part of your fee pays for the insurance, affiliation to Active Retirement Ireland, the community hall rental etc. etc.
