| BALLYGALL LADIES CLUB |
|
In 1974 a group of Mothers in Ballygall got together and formed what was known then as the Northside ladies club. It was a outlet for women who at that time did not have to work outside the home. Sometime later the Northside Shopping Centre was built, and it was too confusing for people who were visiting us and got completely lost so we changed the name to Ballygall Ladies Club. I am glad to say we have been going ever since We have had numerous activities down through the years. A choir entered and won many competitions. We ran a concert which every year for St. Vincent de Paul with guest artists. A raffle every week raised funds for our community centre, run by the late Maureen Mynes R.I.P. Down through the years we have had countless demonstrators from different companies. Some people learned to swim in St Vincent’s Swimming pool, where we had an instructor for several years Every year we start with a Mass in the community rooms said by our local priest . We have just had our annual carol singing in Grafton St. for our local branch of St. Vincent de Paul. We became affiliated to the Irish Federation of Women’s clubs, and they opened a vast opportunity for women to show their talents, in Painting, in knowledge at quizzes, photography, bowling, writing short stories and variety shows, to mention but a few. May we long continue to work in the community and in harmony with each other.
