Governor John Lonergan will talk to the parents of the boys of St. Kevin’s College on Thursday 26th November at 8.00pm Title of talk: “Parenting – the challenges and the rewards.”
Biography: John Lonergan joined the Irish Prison Service in 1968 and was appointed Governor of Mountjoy in 1984. He also served as Governor of the top security prison in Portlaoise from November 1988 until may 1992. He is married with two grown up daughters. His philosophy is that change both personal and otherwise cannot be enforced upon people , believing that real and meaningful change comes through consent and agreement. He is convinced that the task for all of us is to find the humanity in another human being and then to nurture it. The more people become more aware of their own humanity the more likely they are to treat others with respect.
He argues that if our objective is to create a just, inclusive and cohesive society we must build it on the core value of justice, equality , fairness, honesty and compassion.
