On April 24th, 28th and 29th, Sacred Heart School joined in with the GAA's celebrations to mark 125 years of the association. It was seen as a great opportunity to teach the children about their traditional culture in a fun and relevant way, while also continuing the strong link that has always existed between the GAA and primary education in Ireland. It all began on Friday April 24th when all the children had an opportunity to play a bit of football and hurling while wearing in the county or club colours to brighten up the school.

The following Tuesday saw the display of project work completed by the children in the school hall. Staff and students also displayed "GAA artefacts" that they had at home, thus turning the hall into the GAA Museum for a day. The hall had old trophies, jerseys, match programmes, medals and pictures as well as a display about GAA in Ballygall throughout the years. To add to the excitement of the day, a number of Dublin players came to the school. Three young men, all past pupils of Sacred Heart now playing for Dublin came back for a visit.  They were Luke Sweetman, Colm Moore and Alan Hubbard. This added to the visits made by former Dublin Camogie player Claire Donohue and current Dublin Ladies Football Captain Denise Masterson. They spoke to the fourth classes who were working on projects about the ladies
games.

On Wednesday, the famous Liam McCarthy Cup visited the school along with some other famous hurling trophies.

The three days created great excitement around the school and allowed the children to connect with and learn about an important part of our traditional culture.
