The Ballygall Community Council were nominated by Dublin City Council for an award in the National Pride of Place competition in 2009. These annual awards are presented at alternative venues, North or South, each year. In 2009, the venue was the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, Co. Down. 100 Community Groups were nominated, all winners at local level, and it was a complete surprise for the Ballygall Council to emerge as Winners in Category Two, Cities Competition. The judges' comments were as follows:

"Ballygall Community Councill are an active orgnisation at the core of their community. Having acted as the co-ordinating body for voluntary groups in the locality this admirable and dedicated group undertook the onerous task of fundraising to build a community centre. It goes without saying that this was achieved and the centre now provides a wide range of activities tailored to the needs of the community. The new computer suite has added a further dimension and incentive for those who wish to avail of its facilities. The commitment of the committee was very obvious indeed."
